Children's Services

Giving children and young people the best start in life is a key priority for us. We have a key role in making sure that all our children have access to the same opportunities, enabling everyone to reach their full potential and to lead a happy, independent life. Our Children’s Services Strategic Plan sets out how over the next ten years we will work with pace and dedication to deliver on our commitments and making a real difference for local families.

The Children's Social Care and Preventative Services Division is responsible for the full range of services for children and young people across South Gloucestershire and is part of the wider People Directorate, under the leadership of Executive Director, Chris Sivers. Over the past three years we’ve seen rapidly increasing demand to support children and families with ever more complex needs. We recognised the pressure this was placing on our frontline teams and to ensure we can deliver on our high ambitions for our children and young people, we’re making a significant investment in these areas, creating new roles and establishing additional teams.

Our children’s social care teams are based at three offices, all easily accessible from Bristol, Bath, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, North Somerset and Wales. As we are situated so close to Bristol, many of our staff choose an urban lifestyle, living in the city, whilst having an easy journey to work, travelling against the flow of commuting traffic. Equally, South Gloucestershire also has a number of villages and quiet towns providing those looking for a more unhurried pace of life with easy access to countryside and green, open spaces.
